Subject: Consumer Reports - Back Pain

Hi everyone,

Looks like spring is definitely (finally) here... and not a moment too soon after the winter we had, eh? Here's hoping that we all survived the worst ice storm in anyone's memory. I count myself among the incredibly lucky, with less than two days of power loss in that one. Some of my patients and friends were nearly two WEEKS without electricity!!

Today's mailing is a quickie.. a link to the April, 2009 Consumer Reports study on back pain. It's an easy read and you'll note that chiropractic came out on top ---> http://www.consumerreports.org/health/medical-conditions-treatments/back-pain/overview/back-pain.htm

That's it for now... and oh,... remember that our "functional" health can be thought of as existing at some point along a sliding scale -- a continuum that stretches from 100% vibrant (OPTIMAL) health at the right end, to 0% (or DEATH) at the left. Think of aging and chronic illness as an un-relenting tug toward the LEFT.

Dr. James Fries
, of Stanford University Medical School - internationally renowned researcher in areas of chronic disease, aging, toxicity of medications, costs of care for chronic diseases, etc. termed this scale... The Functional Health Continuum. Can you picture it?

You can visualize that as the overall health and functionality of your individual cells, organs, and systems improves, your place on the continuum slides toward the OPTIMUM end (and vice versa).

You know by now that our diet and lifestyle choices DO affect our positions on the continuum. In fact, they are the biggest factors! Big Mac, chocolate shake and large fries; sitting on the couch watching Dr. Phil and playing Madden Football ---> slide toward the LEFT.

Fresh, organic vegetables and fruit, lean protein, complex carbohydrates, healthful fats; exercise with your kids in the yard, train a bit with weights, etc. ---> slide toward the RIGHT.

Where are YOU? In what direction are you sliding?
If you've been hanging-on to "the weather" as your excuse for your slipping in the wrong direction -- that's one's out now! If it's time for a chiropractic/Applied Kinesiology spring tune-up, give Judy a call and let's get going .

Yours in vibrant health,

Dr. J
